Ad blocking, built in
Lunascape, the browser with ad blocking built in
Nothing to install on top. A blocker built into the browser itself stops ads and trackers from the first launch. Pages load lighter and use less data. Free on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android.
Why built in
As long as ad blocking is an extension, it plays by rules the browser vendor writes. There is a ceiling on what an extension is allowed to do, and the people setting that ceiling make their money from ads.
Lunascape's blocker is not an extension. A Rust engine built into the browser does the work, so the limits placed on extensions do not apply to it.
There is no setting to turn on, no extension to add, no update to keep an eye on. From the moment it is installed, this is that kind of browser.
What changes, day to day
Less data
Ads and the scripts that serve them are never fetched, so that traffic never happens. The difference grows on tethering and small data plans.
No tracking
What follows you around the web is the tracker embedded in the page. Not letting it run is the privacy protection that works.
Pages stay intact
Just deleting a tracker can break a page. Lunascape swaps in a harmless stand-in instead, so sites keep working.
Allow with one click
Allow ads on a site you want to support. Open the shield to see what was blocked on the page you are reading.
The filter lists you already trust
The lists from the uBlock Origin and EasyList lineage load by default, including a filter written for Japanese sites.
- On by default: uBlock filters (Ads, Privacy, Badware, Unbreak), EasyList, EasyPrivacy, AdGuard Japanese filter, URLhaus malicious URL blocklist
- Available to add: Annoyances, cookie notices, social widgets, Fanboy's Annoyance List
- Lists refresh themselves in the background and keep working offline from cache
- uBlock Origin-compatible resources are loaded and used for the harmless stand-ins
On the desktop and on the phone
Windows / Mac
A Rust blocking engine runs inside the browser itself, free of the limits placed on extensions. For Windows, and Macs on Apple silicon and Intel.
iPhone / Android
Rules based on EasyList block pre-roll video ads and banner ads on sites, keep browsing data from being collected, and save data and battery.

Some websites may still show ads.
How it differs from an ad-blocking extension
| Extension | Lunascape | |
|---|---|---|
| Installation | Install the browser, then find and add an extension | Part of the browser. Nothing to add |
| Where it runs | Within what the browser allows an extension | In the browser itself. Extension limits do not apply |
| Default state | Off. Ads show until you add it | On. Blocking from the first launch |
| Updates | Extension and lists update separately | Lists refresh themselves in the background |
| On a phone | Often unavailable in mobile browsers | Ad blocking on iPhone and Android too |
Frequently asked questions
- Is the ad blocking free?
- Yes. Lunascape is free, and every feature including ad blocking comes at no extra cost. No account is needed.
- Do I need to set anything up?
- No. Ad blocking is on by default and working from the first page you open after installing. It can be switched off in settings if you ever want to.
- Can I allow ads on a particular site?
- Yes. On a site you want to support, one click on the shield allows its ads. The choice is remembered per site.
- Does it block video ads, like on YouTube?
- The mobile version targets pre-roll video ads. The desktop version blocks from uBlock filters and EasyList, so changes on a video site's side can let ads through. Some websites may still show ads.
- Can I use extensions such as uBlock Origin?
- Lunascape supports Google Chrome extensions (currently experimental, so not every extension works). Ad blocking is built in from the start, though, so it works without adding any.
- Which browser has the strongest ad blocking?
- What decides it is the filter lists and the machinery that runs them. Lunascape runs lists from the same lineage as uBlock Origin, on an engine inside the browser that is free of the limits placed on extensions — the same rules, with no ceiling.
